Job Description

 

LOCATION: Central Valley

 

POSITION: Water Treatment Plant Operator

 

CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Grade 3 (T3) Water Treatment Plant Operator Certification issued by the California State Water Control Board and Grade 1 (D1) Distribution Operator Certification issued by the California State Water Control

JOB SUMMARY: Under direct supervision of the Chief Plant Operator, employee will perform a variety of operation, maintenance, and inspection assignments at the Water Treatment Plant. Perform daily maintenance and repairs as needed. Ensure Water Treatment Plant is operating at CSWRCB standards and regulations.

 

SCHEDULE: TBD Based off company needs. Must be able to work standby, holidays, weekends and overtime as required.

 

SALARY:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

  • Operates automatic and manually controlled equipment, motors, and pumps used in the treatment, purification, and disinfection of water
  • Oversee automated processes through monitoring of SCADA system
  • Calculates water treatment chemical dosages to ensure efficient operation of the Water Treatment Plant, maintain water treatment goals, and water quality standards
  • Adjust, monitor, and maintain chemical feed systems
  • Perform a variety of maintenance and repair work on plant facilities as required
  • Oversees pumping equipment to ensure proper functioning; identify possible issues or operation difficulties
  • Backwash filters as required
  • Maintain logs, records and data systems for required plant reports
  • Collect water samples; perform water quality control testing; utilize results to ensure water quality standards
  • Compile lab reports for senior staff as required
  • Maintain and report chemical inventory and laboratory supplies
  • Interpret meter and data readings to determine the proper operations of Water Treatment Plant
  • Assess water flow, turbidity, pressure, chemical usage, residuals, temperatures, and other data to maintain proper operations of Water Treatment Plant
  • Requisition chemicals, equipment, and supplies as directed; receives delivered materials, record shipments and store items
  • Routinely handle hazardous materials in accordance with the District’s Risk Management Plan, Respiratory Program, Safety Program, Injury and Illness Protection Program, and OSHA requirements
  • Performs other duties as assigned by direct supervisor

ESSENTIAL JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Equivalent to the completion of twelfth grade
  • Ability to communicate clearly in English (verbally and written)
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Minimum two years of experience at a Water Treatment Facility

 

SPECIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • Employee frequently required to stand, walk, sit, and reach with hands and arms. employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
  • Employee must regularly lift and or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and or move up to 50 pounds
