Job Description


LOCATION: Los Angeles Area


POSITION: Wastewater Treatment Operator I


CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Valid Grade II Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certificate issued by SWRCB

JOB SUMMARY: Under general supervision of the Chief Plant Operator, the Wastewater Treatment Operator I is responsible for the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and repair of the wastewater/water treatment plant and equipment.


SCHEDULE: TBD Based off company needs. Must be able to work standby, holidays, weekends and overtime as required.




  • Operate valves, pumps, and gates manually through local control center
  • Observe variations in operating conditions, records meter, sensor, and gauge readings; perform necessary process control adjustments
  • Maintain facilities, office building, vehicles, equipment, and pump stations for the wastewater operation
  • Perform routine in-plant water lab sampling and analysis; conduct inspection; collect water quality samples for system operation and to ensure water quality is up to standards
  • Make routine rounds of assigned process areas; records operating data such as run times, chemical usage, flows and other process information in shift logs; perform mathematical calculations
  • Perform maintenance work and repairs on water treatment plant systems and equipment as necessary
  • Respond to wastewater/water collection system emergencies
  • Maintain logs and prepares other required reports as needed; prepare technical and administrative reports as requested
  • Responsible for general housekeeping of job sites, work areas and other areas as assigned including heavy labor as needed
  • Observe and abide by all on-the-job safety regulations
  • Performs other duties as assigned by direct supervisor



  • Equivalent to the completion of twelfth grade 
  • Ability to communicate clearly in English (verbally and written)
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Minimum one year of experience working in wastewater/water operations




  • Employee frequently required to stand, walk, sit, and reach with hands and arms. Employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
  • Employee must regularly lift and or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and or move up to 50 pounds
