Job Description

LOCATION: Los Angeles

POSITION: Senior Water Distribution Operator 

CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Valid D 3 Water Distribution Operator Certificate issued by the SWRCB; Valid Class A CDL 
JOB SUMMARY: Under direction from the Lead Operator, the Sr. Water Distribution Operator will perform various skilled duties assigned to all levels of Water Distribution Operators. This includes planning, scheduling, supervising, and participating in the maintenance, repair and construction of the City's Water and Recycled Water distribution Systems.

SCHEDULE: TBD Based off company needs. Must be able to work standby, holidays, weekends and overtime as required.

SALARY: Ranges from $28.00 to $34.00 based off of experience + Benefits  

  • Lead, oversee, review and participate in the work of water distribution operators responsible for maintenance, construction and repair of water and/or recycled water distribution systems

  • Plan and lay out daily tasks and schedules for maintenance and repair projects; inspect work in progress and completed; perform scheduling duties for work crews; resolves technical and functions work problems; instruct crews in operation of equipment, work techniques and safety protocol; operate heavy equipment

  • Assist in the training of lower level personnel in the areas of work; ensure adherence to safe work methods, procedures and practices; identify training opportunities and needs; make recommendations to higher level staff

  • Maintain work records such as man hours, materials and progress reports; track receipts for materials and equipment purchased; fill out and submits requisition forms and purchase requests for approval

  • Evaluate assigned work projects; estimate time, materials and equipment necessary for the successful completion of the project; acquire necessary resources as appropriate

  • Work with contractors and City inspectors to coordinate work on the water and/or recycled water distribution system and ensure proper closures; monitor size, location and placement of water connections

  • Attend various meetings for coordination purposes, including underground service alerts, and pre-construction meetings

  • Perform water quality sampling and disinfection monitoring in the distribution system

  • Performs other duties as assigned by direct supervisor


  • Equivalent to the completion of twelfth grade  

  • Ability to communicate clearly in English (verbally and written)

  • Valid Driver’s License

  • Minimum four years of experience in the water distribution systems maintenance and construction; some supervisory experience  


  • Employee frequently required to stand, walk, sit, and reach with hands and arms. Employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl

  • Employee must regularly lift and or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and or move up to 50 pounds
