Job Description

LOCATION: Southern California

POSITION: Operator II- Distribution/Field Service

CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Grade 2 Water Distribution Certificate issued by SWRCB DDW (or have the ability to obtain certificate within 18 months of hire)

JOB SUMMARY: Performs skilled and semi-skilled work in the construction, maintenance and repair of the water distribution systems and related facilities. Assist Operator III as directed. Communicate tactfully with the general public’s inquiries and complaints. Will occasionally step into OPS III role as needed and at the supervisor’s discretion.

SCHEDULE: TBD Based off company needs. Must be able to work standby, holidays, weekends and overtime as required.

SALARY: Ranges from $23.00 to $28.00 based off of experience + Benefits 

  • Communicate to direct supervisor all field customer service issues and needs, all daily activities, needed repairs, hazards, challenges, needs, etc.
  • Ability to meter read and perform water audits
  • Install and operate mains, services, meters, valves and fire hydrants
  • Performs general maintenance and repairs on company equipment including, but not limited to mains, services, meters, valves and fire hydrants
  • Assist in the replacement of meters and registers as needed
  • Repair, disinfect, and test broken water mains
  • Help install, tap, re-line, disinfect, test and connect water mains and appurtenances
  • Assist in shutdowns; Repair, disinfect, and restore water service to customers
  • Use PC tablets or field service applications efficiently to process service orders, etc.
  • Completes all service orders and paperwork assigned daily
  • Works delinquent disconnects and reconnects as assigned
  • Complies with all company safety standards; attend and participate in weekly safety meetings as necessary
  • Safely set up work area traffic controls
  • Maintain and accounts for all tools, equipment and assigned vehicles
  • May obtain water quality samples


  • Equivalent to the completion of twelfth grade
  • Ability to communicate clearly in English (verbally and written)
  • Valid Class A Driver’s License
  • CPR and First Aid Training
  • Minimum of two years related experience


  • Employee frequently required to stand, walk, sit, and reach with hands and arms. employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
  • Employee must regularly lift and or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and or move up to 50 pounds
  • Able to use hand tools, power tools and mechanical equipment safely and effectively
